The Cock Formerly: The Hole

(396 Ratings)
Long-standing hole-in-the-wall gay bar

The Cock is one of the few remaining cruising spaces in New York City. It offers a two-level interior with a dark room in the basement. The venue is known for its backroom scene, while the main room hosts themed parties, go-go dancers, and DJs, all under a discreet neon rooster sign.

Too much for me.

I had a great time and met some friends, but it was a bit too crowded, and there was too much groping for my taste.

No frills. At all.

I was there on a Monday, so my opinion is colored by the fact that New Yorkers don't seem to go out Mondays. (It's not that way everywhere!) But this is a bar with no amenities. The DJ was fine, the bartender served well...but the place is small and dark and bare. And kinda empty. I couldn't help thinking about beautiful gay bars elsewhere with atmosphere! Perhaps the Sunday night parties are busier and more fun.

WASTE OF TIME/RUDE

The local gay book said they opened at 10pm on Sunday, we took a taxi and they were just getting there at 10pm to open at 11pm. Then at 11pm we went there and they were not ready yet and did not open until 11:15pm and then wanted a cover charge. Needless to say we left and went elsewhere. I have worked for many years and if I am supposed to open at a certain time the I do it. They had a "don't care" attitude. We will never go there again.

the cock by name, the cock by nature

This place is filth! I gave it 2and a half because even though it wasn't really for me, I still ended up staying. It's wall to wall men graving your knobs and dancers with hard ons on the bar winking at you (and not with there eyes) there's also a dark room. If that's ya thing then go, if not... Go just to be shocked!!! N then run
