The old "Cock" was all about sleaze and its large downstairs darkroom. This newer location keeps that tradition alive, albeit a bit tamer this time around...
1st place in Best of GayCities 2022 - Dive Bar to Die For
This is not a safe place for the LGBTQ. This review is meant to add to the proof of the homophobic, aggressive, and unsafe behavior pattern of the security personnel working at The Cock, at 93 2nd Avenue, New York, NY 10009. On Sunday morning, March 24th, 2019 at between 1:45 AM and 2 AM, I was bullied, harassed and finally gay-bashed by Brian, the long-time doorman and the straight-identified bouncer who chased me down the street and threw me into the sidewalk. He threatened to break my arm after driving my face over and over into the pavement. Brian then called the police and had me arrested. A team of officers came but did not allow me to file a hate crime or file my own charges. The witnesses being Brian, the drug-dealing kids, and the bouncer were all the police listened to. Nevertheless, I was grateful that they were there as I feared for my life. All this happened after I exited the club, but was unable to leave completely as I was constantly threatened, called homophobic slurs, and surrounded by the drug-dealing kids, who though not malicious, prevented me from walking away. After six months in court, therapy, $2,000 in legal fees; I am finally able to write this review. My case was finally thrown out, but it was a nerve-wracking ordeal that only furthered the abuse that was initiated by Brian, the doorman of The Cock, that evening. Things I don't understand. Why were drug dealers tolerated by the security and the local police, but I was not allowed to file a hate crime report? Why did the officer continue with the arrest as I had no criminal record and was obvious the victim as my face was battered? (I have this medically documented.) The men accusing me of attacking them were both over six feet tall and built like linebackers. I am merely 5ft8 and under 160 lbs. Why did my arresting officer appear high while filing the charges? Why did he comment on my credit cards and then the following day I had $500 of fraudulent charges made on my visa? Why did the D A not throw out the case on the first day but forced me to return to court twice? It shows me that there is little protection for citizens once you have been arrested. In my case, I was accused of what was perpetrated against me. I still suffer from severe depression and anxiety directly related to this. All I can really hope for is that The Cock will hire new security with sensitivity training. If you are ever in this situation, please have your injuries medically documented, seek support with Anti-Violence project (this is their hotline 212-714-1141) and collect and post yelp and google reviews.
What a joke
Smells like a sewer. Where is the health department?
And the darkroom? Sure it is dark & yes it is a room, but NOTHING happens down there. I travel enough to know that this is not a "darkroom" or back room. Just like the rest of New York...misleading and underwhelming.
Worst bar I think I have ever been to.
$5 cover and rude barman for starters. So dark the uneven floors are going to get you some time during your stay. Let the most drunk, obnoxious and gawking women in. Gawking guys too m9stay at the Go Go dancers who come in two varieties, only 2 little twin dauphines initially but then later a couple of hunky muscled guys as well, these with their cocks poking out of their underwear (covered by inserts in the underwear ) (real or ? I wasn't prepared to pay to find out). Someone asked me was the downstairs not open? There's a downstairs? Must be accessible behind the traffic cone guarded area at the back so presumably no it was not open.
I gave up and left at 1 although the rather weird crowd was at its peak.
Open mind req'd
My friend and I visited and at first we were a little unsure, after s few drinks we relaxed and really enjoyed ourselves. It's pretty wild! Not for the feint hearted ð
fun but good luck knowing when to go
Fun bar, when people are there, website sucks, as a visitor, you have no idea about hours of operation, the events flash by so fast you can't read them. Other then that it was fun, it irritates me when business are in the business of entertainment and have a shitty web site.
a nice place to go
Small as it is, it draws quite a number of guys. You can find some attractive young guys easily. The cover fee is $10.00, and tips for hanging your coat is $4.00. Usually there're 3 go go boys, who are nice and smiling all the time. $1.00 tip, you can touch them, feel their muscles, cocks and butthole. You can suck their cock or lick their buttthole if you want. But I suggest don't. There's a dark corner where guys suck and get sucked, and maybe more. Generally people are nice, and will talk to strangers instead of hanging out only with their own circle.
A hot place
It's the only club I've found in NYC that has something like European darkrooms.

Other bars will give you a glass of water. This bar charges $5 for a bottle.
Dirty, dirty, dirty, dirty, dirty, bar. (but in a good way!)
Trashy and fun
First time i went to the cock was gay pride 2012. When i walked in i've never seen anything like it.. There's a shower curtain when you walk in, it's completely pitch black. They used to have a dark room in the back where people would hook up but i think they took it down. Literally everyone was groping each other and even the go go boys were getting some ass. At first i didn't know what to think but it's a good experience -- the music is great and the people are usually sane and cool. There's always gonna be those 1 or 2 creeps walking around. I've been there a couple times afterwards and had a few laughs with friends and if you are looking to get some .. just go here on a weekend night.
