Townhouse

(114 Ratings)
A formal lounge for older gentleman and their admirers.
This east side institution feels more like an old time upscale gentleman's club than a bar. There's lots of sitting areas for conversation, nice large bars and music is in the background. You're also bound to find a few younger guys who "depend on the kindness of strangers".

Enjoyable

My younger bf and I stopped by on a Sat. night, and chatted with another younger/older couple. The piano bar is nice and the music is not overpowering, actually enabling people to carry on a conversation. We will go there again when we are in the city in April.

NICE BAR -- NOT FOR AGE BIGOTS

If you're the kind of person who thinks anyone over forty or so is automatically a "troll" than this place is not for you. It has a nice older crowd of mostly professional men who are looking for same. Yes, there are hustlers now and then and they stand out like sore thumbs, and aren't even that hot. The front room is convivial and cruisy, the back room has a piano and singing, and the downstairs lounge is a bit more intimate. Mixed ages, actually, although it does tend to be an older crowd. Maybe not as nice as it used to be, but still a worthwhile bar.

Trashy Trolls / Nasty Owner

This place was at one time (so I hear) a place were a gay professional can go and have a good time. Me and my friends were dressed in our suits (from the office) and since we are new to NY (just moved to NY from College) we thought we would stop in, we had old trolls offering us cash for company! Everyone was dressed as though they just finished working the farm. No attractive young guys AT ALL! Rude customers at the piano, some ditsy broad with black hair was trying to chat with us and her "boyfriend" (or older brother)was trying to get into our pants. Stay away form this place, there is nothing classy about it The Gay Cities review is SO WRONG! We though that we had gone on a bad nite and went again the following week, and there was no change.. Run from this place and do not look back.
