Join City Lore's Young Professionals Board and the Barrio Roots NYC team for a reception, performance, and dance party in honor of the 3rd installment of the transnational festival, Barrio Roots Street Art.
This first NYC edition seeks to explore the other identities of Mexican migration through the lens of art, music, and community muralism. City Lore is pleased to collaborate on this initiative with Habitajes, the U.S. Department of Arts and Culture, the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures, the Institute of Mexicans Abroad, The Consulate General of Mexico, participating artists, and local partners including New York University's Music Experience Design Lab, Mixteca Organization, and Mayday Space in kicking off this NYC edition.
On October 21st, join us at City Lore at 7pm for a reception honoring the Barrio Roots Street Art festival. We'll serve refreshments while attendees learn about Barrio Roots, meet the participants, and enjoy performances by nationally acclaimed artists, including poet Yosimar Reyes and Son Jarocho band Radio Jarocho.
From 9:30pm-midnight, the event will transform into a dance party with tunes by DJ Pana Li. Pana Li (Diana Castro) is a NY based Mexican designer and dj. Her sets are a mixture of subtle slow tempo techno and afro-latin dance rhythms. She is a member of the Berlin based record label Etoro Records and Co-Founder of Manamana, an open platform that displays data from female artists in music through interactive visualizations, editorial publications, residencies and workshops.
Manamana aligns with Barrio Roots vision of magnifying voices and providing space for new explorations on identity and gender.
Beer has been lovingly provided by Brooklyn Brewery.
This evening is entirely free and open to the public, but an RSVP is highly suggested.
