The Band
Joel E. Mateo is a drummer and percussionist born San Juan, P.R. and raised in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He began his musical studies at an early age at the Escuela Libre de Música Juan Morell Campos in Ponce, PR. He continued his music studies completing a BA in the Interamerican University in PR and then an MA at the Aaron Copland School of Music in NYC. His musical range has lead him to play live and record with international artists such as Papo Vazquez, Miguel Zenon, Manuel Valera, Chembo Corniel, Joel Frahm, Andy Gonzalez, The Spanish Harlem, Pedro Martinez, Luigie Texidor, William Cepeda, Tego Calderon, Anthony Carrillo, The Curtis Brothers,Mitch Frohman, Elio Villafranca, John Benitez, La Mala Rodriguez, and Paoli Mejias among others. Joel currently resides in New York City where he continues to play, record and travel with different artist and groups.
A native of Vancouver, Washington, Zach Lapidus is a pianist, composer, and teacher currently based in Brooklyn, NY. An active performer as well as recording musician, his playing has been featured on broadcasts of NPR’s Jazz Set with Dee Dee Bridgewater and Morning Edition, as well as on Voice of America and WBGO. Most recently, he was selected as one of five finalists nationally for the American Pianists Association’s 2015 Jazz Fellowship Awards. Among other musicians, he has performed with Dee Dee Bridgewater, Dianne Reeves, Wycliffe Gordon, Claudio Roditi, Rich Perry, Corey Christiansen, Bobby Watson, Derrick Gardner, and Ralph Bowen.
A master of styles, Jerry DeVore is an accomplished electric and acoustic bass player. He is also a composer, arranger, and conductor with an eclectic background from rock to jazz to gospel to symphony orchestras. He is a native of Peoria, Illinois, where he earned a Bachelors Degree in Music Performance from Bradley University. Before coming to New York City, Jerry toured with the United States Air Force Band. His entry to NYC began with the graduate program at New York University, where he graduated with a Masters in Jazz Performance and was given the award for Outstanding Jazz Studies. Jerry’s performance career has been prodigious. He has toured the United States, Canada, South America, and Europe. Through making the city his home, he regularly performs at all the top NYC venues. Currently his focus is on creating his first solo recording.
