DâM-FunK, headliner, is a singer, songwriter, and producer who has been creating music since the mid-1990s. Growing up in Pasadena, California, in the 1970s, his parents nurtured his musical talents as a child and by his teens, he had mastered the drums and then the drum machine. A chance encounter led to an apprenticeship under funk songwriter/producer Leon Sylvers III (SOLAR Records) and, by the mid-1990s G-Funk era in hip-hop, DâM-FunK found his musical skills in high demand by rappers such as Mack 10 and MC Eiht.
In 2006, he launched the popular Funkmosphere party in Los Angeles. He’s released two critically acclaimed full-length albums (Toeachizown, Invite The Light) on the Stones Throw imprint and as a producer he’s collaborated with the likes of Snoop Dogg, Ariel Pink, Disclosure, Animal Collective, Wolfgang Gartner, and many more. This summer will mark the debut of DâM’s monthly radio show and new record label, both entitled ‘Glydezone.’ DâM-FunK’s newest album DJ-Kicks will be released on May 27.
Born Robert O’Bryant IV, in Detroit in 1975, DJ Waajeed’s (Jeedo) earliest memories are of evenings spent in his dining room on the east side of Detroit listening to his father’s record collection. After receiving a full scholarship to the College for Creative Studies, at the age of 19, Jeedo put aside his budding music career to pursue an education in art. While in college, he continued to develop his musical career by starting record label Bling 47, inspired by Motown and Underground Resistance, then Platinum Pied Pipers in 2002. In 2012, he formed his record label DIRT TECH RECK to explore his more dance-floor-oriented music.
Hailing from Long Beach, California, Shawn Dub moved to New York City in 2011. Today he resides in Brooklyn, and actively spins around the city as part of “I Love Vinyl,” a crew which includes others such as Amir Abdullah, DJ Scribe, OP!, and Jon Oliver.
