The Schomburg Center has played a pivotal role within Caribbean communities and thrives off the support we’ve received throughout our 90-year history. That’s why we are thrilled to present First Friday: Labor Day “Carnival” Edition! Back by popular demand, our annual celebration returns with a fun-filled event where attendees are invited to rep their country with paraphernalia and flags.
First Fridays attendees are encouraged to check out our wonderful exhibitions, “Curators’ Choice: Black Life Matters” and “The 75th Anniversary of the American Negro Theatre,” sign up for a Schomburg membership, and visit our Gift Shop—while networking and dancing the night away! Our host for the night will be the Humble Prince from Sahara FM, with deejays DJ Trini and DJ Craig Nice in the Langston Hughes Lobby and DJ Kwiss in the courtyard.
"The Mavis & Ephraim Hawthorne Golden Krust Foundation was created to help educate and relieve the problem of college dropout rates among minority candidates, through scholarships, mentorships and internships. In keeping true to its mission, the foundation has also established endowment programs with the Bronx Community College (BCC), Bronx, NY and the University of the West Indies, Jamaica."
There will also be a surprise performance as well, so don't miss the magic!
