Dialogue & Studio Workshop Series: Crowns

Like art, fashion explores themes of cultural and personal mythologies, transformations, and exaltations. Participants will consider the work of three artists whose contributions to "When The Curtain Never Comes Down" delve into these topics and motifs. Inspired by his muse and wife, Marie, Eugene Von Bruenchenhein imagined her a queen and photographed her wearing a crown he fashioned from a coffee can. Palmerino Sorgente, who was influenced by his religious beliefs and by the aesthetics of Catholic Church regalia, designed cardinal’s hats and richly ornamented crowns he wore and displayed publicly. Raimundo Borges Falcão dedicates himself to creating bold and imaginative headdresses for Carnival that are pieced together from refuse and recycled materials. Merge your passion for both fashion and art in this workshop. Take an in-depth look at fanciful and elaborate headdresses, crowns, and hats led by a museum educator, followed by step-by-step instruction in the making of a floral crown utilizing seasonal, local blossoms with Christy Meisner, author of the forthcoming publication "Flower Crowns: 30 DIY Floral Creations."
