Choreographer Christopher K. Morgan will present a preview excerpt of his solo Pohaku, recipient of a NEFA National Dance Project Award and NPN Creation Fund Award. Pohaku incorporates Hawaiian chant, hula, contemporary dance, theater and storytelling to explore compelling universal themes in the story of Hawaii’s native people, including land loss and fractured identity.
The company will also show excerpts of critically acclaimed works" In the Cold Room" and "Bruised," both featuring live music by electric cellist Wytold.
This contemporary dance company’s wide ranging work, said to be "direct, transcendent and entrancing” by The Washington Post, is eligible for NDP tour support following the premiere of Pohaku in Fall of 2015, as well as support through the National Performance Network and the Maryland State Arts Council Touring Roster.
