Love love it!
Great, intimate spot with some great talent. Was in town for US Open and stumbled on this spot. Convenient for anyone staying in the Tudor City area. Will be back when my travels bring me to NY again.
Didn't like it at all!
You walk up a seedy flight of stairs and "nothing" but a small bar, bad singing and nothing going on. Stayed for one drink and walked back down the stairs to the real world.
My kind of Happy Place
Uncle Charlies is one of the better Gay joints in town. Great crowd. Great events. Great management (Michael & Joseph). Love Patio and Piano. I have become a regular since I discovered UC last summer. You will find me hovering over the piano. Come and say hello. Tony
Very friendly
I haven't been in an east side bar in a long time and they sometimes have the reputation of being snooty -- and this place is a far cry from my usual bear hang outs -- but I have to say everyone was very friendly. This is an attractive spot with a small piano lounge located in the back. Mixed ages, so anyone should feel comfortable here. No doubt it gets a few commuters waiting for the train to Connecticut, but even if they have wives and kids it's unlikely that they're straight, if you know what I mean. I was here mid-evening on a Sunday night -- not packed, but not dead either -- so no commuters were present. Very friendly pianist and customers, but only one bear/otter -- me!
The way a gay bar should be
I have to say Uncle charlies is Great. The only bizzare thing is there are people of ALL ages, young old, and in between, lots of hot straight commuters from Grand Central, lots of hot hotel/broadway workers. Bartenders Jacob and Ken are very cute and friendly. I esp like the outdoor patio, where you can smoke or eat/
