Not What It Used To Be
I have been going to the Townhouse for many years, going back to the early 80's. I was also a regular at the Townhouse restaurant when I was in NY, which I am sorry to say is no longer there. The Townhouse was always a must for me when in New York. I loved the gentlemen's club feel. You could not beat the great showtunes at the piano. A very handsome and mixed age crowd. Most often I would go there alone and go back to my hotel alone having had a great relaxing end to my evening. Occasionally, I would meet someone and enjoy spending a great evening with them. I had not been to the Townhouse for about five years. I went back about two weeks ago. I was very disappointed. Last call in the room with the piano was at about 1:00a.m. (instead of 3:00a.m.), the crowd was sparse. The service was not great. When they closed the room with the piano I decided to have a couple of drinks at the front bar. I had never had a drink there before. I was really unhappy to realize that the front bar was a hustler bar. I guess that few things last forever. After going there for over twenty years, I will never go back. I am not into hustlers, but if I was, the ones that evening looked tired. I will miss the Townhouse.
Definitely refined
Just a lovely place for the more mature crowd, not someone looking for pounding music and strippers. Relaxing and quite enjoyable, it is a nice change of pace from the crazy world outside.
Nice place
I found myself here one night when visiting NY. I had a great night, drinking, chatting & listening to the piano. The atmosphere is great, the staff were freindly and I it has been one night I shall always remember from my visit to NY. So what if someone hits on you, I was. It was subtle and flattering. Give it a go!
Low key
i have een here a cuple of times and gotten lucky once. Older professional crouwd. No torlls in my opinion. Downstairs is good for intimacy.
Over 50 Gay Guy's POV
The reviews of Townhouse run the gamut, from total negative to nice, indeed. As a Gay man well into his fifties, my POV is far from the earlier review which stamped Townhouse as a place for rather 'vile' aging trolls. I've spent several delightful evenings here, both with a partner and solo. When alone, I wasn't there to 'troll' for the younger guys, merely to have a couple of drinks, listen to the piano, and relax. Which I did. Haven't noticed many older guys hitting on and making life miserable for the younger guys. It may happen, but I haven't seen it. I'd suggest giving Townhouse a chance, seeing for yourself..
