The Westin New York Grand Central

100% love it
The new Queen of Midtown East
Just steps from Grand Central Terminal at the heart of the city’s action, New York’s flagship Westin got a spectacular $75 million facelift at the end of 2012, making it one of the best Midtown options going. The gay-friendly Westin manages to perfectly straddle that very fine line between business and leisure, giving the hotel a wonderfully mixed international clientele. The 774 rooms now sport a cool minimalist design aesthetic, and every single one is more than 300 square feet -- that’s luxuriously spacious for NYC, if you’re not a regular. To help you keep in shape on the road, there’s the 3,000-square-foot WestinWORKOUT fitness studio, and the hotel even offers New Balance workout gear for $5 a day (great for keeping packing to a minimum). In the lobby, the stylish THE LCL: Bar & Kitchen has become a hip and lively hotspot for guests and locals alike, offering a great selection of local spirits and beers, and a tasty “kicked up comfort food” menu. The gorgeous and iconic Chrysler Building is just across the street (try to snag a room with that view), and the UN is just a couple of blocks away. The Westin comes with its own fun history too: In its original incarnation as the New York Helmsley Hotel, it was a prized jewel in the crown of the infamous Queen of Mean, Leona Helmsley.

      Beautiful reno
Tucked almost under the Chrysler Building, this place has a bit of NYC personality while still feeling and looking like a Westin. Rates can be pretty good. Easy access to Grand Central, and a quick walk to Times Square or the UN. East side is quieter than the West side, but it's still NYC and there's always something going on
