NEVER AGAIN!
I've stayed at a lot of gay guest houses but this one really was horrible beyond belief. To start off, there was no one to let me in when I arrived and no one answered the phone so I ended up staying at another place my first night. After checking in at the Chelsea Pines, which was great, I called to make sure there wasn't anything I messed up with and the guy who answered had the nerve to tell me I never showed up!! I bit my tongue and called back the next day since I hadn't extended my stay at the Pines yet and whoever answered was very gracious and told me I could stay the rest of my stay for $50/night the rest of the week so I took him on the deal. After checking in, the guy that yelled at me originally came to my room to introduce himself, wouldn't take a hint and leave, and then started ambling on about sex, grindr, and wanted to show me his ---. He was creepy, probably twice my age, and probably hasn't seen a gym in years. I immediately went back to Chelsea Pines and was soooo happy I did. Don't stay here whatever you do!
Great Bang for the Buck
I stayed here one night to relax & raise hell after a being in NJ for a week before heading home. The rooms are small & the baths are shared. But, if your willing to have that inconvience , it's a fantastic deal for the price. My single room was immaculate & the single bed was very comfortable. Stairs would be a challenge if you have physical limitations. It is in Chelsea & very near the West Villiage. The owner was delightful and actually walked down to the Chelsea Market and shared some great stories about "his" New York. If you're looking for luxury, stay in a hotel. But if your like me and only use the room for the bed and are on the go, you can't beat it. I'll be staying her on my next visit to NYC.
Fantastic location and deal!
I've stayed at the Chelsea Mews several times and keep coming back because it's the perfect location and way cheaper than anything else you'll find in Chelsea or midtown. The place is right by Chelsea Market and on the edge of the West Village, by all the hot spots in Chelsea too. The guesthouse is really cool, filled with antiques. It's not a 5 star hotel, but for how cheap it is, it's a great deal. The owner's always helpful in navigating the city and has offered me a bike tour in the summers. Love the place!
I like it!
My partner and I stayed here and really loved it. Its like staying in a great 1840 town house and it is super fun. The owners are very friendly and warm. We felt at home right away. They washed and folded all our laundry while we were there (free) and took us on a great bike ride around the city (FREE) The rates are the best in the city and if you want to get away from boring hotels and see an aspect of New York you will never forget, check it out> Thanks Chelsea Mews!
Creepy, creepy, creepy
I think the best way to describe this place is CREEPY! There are other places in New York to stay on a budget. The guy who checked me in kept touching my back and asked if I wanted a massage... not a good thing... stay away.
