Research in Action Awards - TAG's 20th Anniversary

TAG's annual Research in Action Awards (RIAA) honors activists, scientists, philanthropists, and creative artists who have made extraordinary contributions in the fight against AIDS. RIAA is a fundraiser to support TAG’s programs, and provides a forum to honor heroes of the epidemic. This year marks the 20th anniversary of TAG’s founding, which will make this Research in Action Awards a very special celebration. FRANCOISE BARRE-SINOUSSI The virologist who discovered HIV in 1982 and won the Nobel Prize for it in 2008, now President of the International AIDS Society, who has authored hundreds of scientific publications and is leading the IAS ‘Global Scientific Strategy – Towards an HIV-1 Cure”. PAUL FARMER A co-founder of Partners in Health and chairman of Harvard Medical School's Department of Global Health and Social Medicine whose vision and leadership were critical to the movement to make AIDS treatments available to those in the developing world. His work was heralded in Tracy Kidder’s hugely popular Mountains Beyond Mountains: The Quest of Paul Farmer, A Man Who Would Cure the World. Award Presented by TBA JUDITH LIGHT Emmy Award-winning and 2012 Tony Award-winning actress, is renowned for her dynamic involvement as an advocate and spokesperson for human rights. Her efforts as an LGBT rights activist have been awarded by GLAAD, HRC, Lambda Legal and the Matthew Shepard Foundation, and her extraordinary commitment as an HIV/AIDS activist includes participation with the True Colors Fund and Board membership serving the CDC’s Business Responds to AIDS and the Ryan White Foundation.
