Gay Secrets of the Metropolitan Museum

Did you know that the Met had portrait busts of a Roman emperor and his boytoy—whom he had declared a god when the boy died at 19? A 17th century painting commemorating a love affair between a castrato singer and a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic church? Two of the rare Greek vases represeting lesbian couples? Join us on this fun and informative 2 hour walking tour, as gay historian Professor Andrew Lear lets you in on the gay secrets of the Met’s masterpieces, from ancient Greek nudes to Picasso's portrait of Gertrude Stein. You may have always suspected there was something gay about our artistic traditions. Come on this tour, and you will see that it is much gayer--or more LGBTQ--than you ever imagined!
