This Christopher Square bar has been a fixture of the neighborhood since Stonewall. Don't mind the wagon wheel chandeliers, just grab a seat at the bar and make a new friend. Things can get a little wild on Thursday nights - be sure to be nice to the guy at the grill (and the cuties behind the bar!)

Great Burgers
One of NYs oldest bars, if not the oldest. Older crowd, but they have the best and biggest bar burgers in NY. It's always a must stop when visiting the West Village.
who does he know?
i really enjoy the place usually, but the bartender everyone is talking about has to be the rudest man in the business.(someone has to be)!i've walked out becouse i'd have to wait 10 min. for a drink while he was b.s.ing with his buddies in the corner.mind u, there was only those 5 or 6 of them in the corner!
Not too good unless you're a regular
Unless you’re a regular OR part of the “the group” it’s probably not worth it. Good atmosphere GREAT food! We love the fries & onion rings. Wish it were more of just a hang out place, unfortunately one of the bartenders & his “click” make you feel really out of place if you’re not a regular. We live in the city, yet we’d prefer to go to a different bar.
Friendly West Village Place
Great food, drinks and service. Lots of lovely people who will chat if you wish.
2nd oldest gay bar in NYC
This bar was still trying make it as a straight bar in the mid-Sixties, despite having gay customers - trust me, I was a customer then. This was the reason the Sip-in was successful here, gay-identified customers from Mattachine were refused service. The Candle Bar uptown on West 74th and Amsterdam was operating at this time as a real gay bar - and is still operating as one. Julius's is okay for a nostalgia trip and burgers.
