Founded in 1934 by George Balanchine and Lincoln Kirstein, The School of American Ballet has been training ballet dancers for generations. SAB is the official School of New York City Ballet.
Mission To train dancers for professional careers in ballet. Company Overview The School's students enroll at various stages of their development as dancers. Those from the New York area may start as children with little or no experience. Other students from around the US are typically introduced to the School through our five week summer program for 12 to 18 year olds, and may subsequently stay year-round in our dormitories to continue their training. All students must audition in order to attend SAB.
