ACT UP NY is pleased to invite you to a special screening of the documentary “parTy boi” followed by a Q&A with director Micheal Rice, hosted by Jason VernaKular Walker, from VOCAL-NY.
The ACT UP Meth Group was created two years ago to bring to light the epidemic proportions of meth use among gay men in NYC. Working in coalition with several HIV service organizations in NYC, as well as representatives from the NYC Dept. of Health and Mental Hygiene and the NYS Dept. of Health, the Meth Group has organized a series of events around this issue. Micheal's documentary goes a step further, focusing on the epidemic use of Tina among the Black and Latino gay and transgender communities, which are the ones at the forefront of the HIV epidemic in NYC and in many other places throughout the US.
The screening and Q&A* will take place on Thursday, October 12th, from 7 to 9 PM at the LGBT Center room 310. While the screening is free thanks to Micheal's graciousness, we ask for a small donation from those attending the event to help him with production/post-production expenses.
*The Q&A will be streamed live to ACT UP NY's Facebook page.
Light refreshments will be served. We hope you will join us for this event and spread the word!
This film contains footage of individuals using meth, which may be disturbing to some people.
