IVAN VELEZ: BRONX HAIKU
fifty five odd years
my life in blood and panels
and sparkly brown ink
Bronx-born Puerto Rican cartoonist and educator Ivan Velez exhibits a series of comics, drawings, and activist work spanning his surprisingly unique thirty-year career. From his groundbreaking work on LGBT youth issues during the AIDS Crisis, to his subversive writing in mainstream comic book companies such as Milestone Media, DC Comics and Marvel (including his independent and Creative Capital Grant fueled comics series to come), along with his independent work for queer and multicultural publishing, the show brings to light an artist who quietly works to bring change and diversity to American culture.
Please enjoy this walk through one Bronx artist's life.
