Clay Cane’s collection of personal essays is a cathartic journey and commentary on the nuances of race, class, gender, sexuality, and faith. With honesty and humor, Cane candidly reflects on the heartbreaking, inspirational and unforgettable moments in his life. The narrative explores his diverse racial identity, searching for his "tribe" as a black gay man, growing up in Philadelphia and Washington State during the 1980s and 1990s, and eventually moving to New York City. Combined with the influence of pop culture, these factors influenced and shaped his identity within the intersectional space of black and LGBT communities. Through the art of storytelling, the communities most disenfranchised are represented in the book: undocumented workers, transgender women of color, queer people, single mothers, poor whites and more. Under our current political climate, marginalized communities are most at risk. 'LIVE THROUGH THIS' delivers an emotional narrative that needs to be heard, respected and understood, now, more than ever. 'LIVE THROUGH THIS' is the new American story.
