Pride is For Kids, Too! March with the Gender & Family Project and our partner, Bank of America, to celebrate gender diversity, acceptance, and PRIDE! All GFP families, friends, and allies are welcome to march with us to show that we stand strong together to protect trans kids! The first 250 registrants will receive a Pride is for Kids Too t-shirt. ------------------------ Dear Proud Marchers, Allies, and Families!! We are thrilled that you will be joining the Gender & Family Project and out partner, Bank of America at the Pride March! MARCH LINE UP TIME AND LOCATION: -ARRIVAL TIME: 10:30-11:00am PLEASE ARRIVE NO LATER THAT 11AM. IF YOU ARRIVE LATER YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO GET TO US. LINE UP LOCATION: 38TH STREET BETWEEN MADISON AND 5THAVENUE. YOU MUST ENTER THE FLOAT LINEUP FROM THE EAST SIDE (SEE BELOW). PLEASE NOTE THAT 5TH AVE IS CLOSED TO ALL VEHICLE AND FOOT TRAFFIC AFTER 10 AM. YOU WILL ONLY BE ABLE TO ACCESS THE MEETING LOCATION FROM THE EAST SIDE (PARK AVENUE). IF YOU ARE COMING VIA SUBWAY, WE SUGGEST TAKING THE 4,5,6,S, OR 7 TRAINS TO GRAND CENTRAL. THERE IS A PARKING GARAGE AT 155 EAST 38TH STREET (https://goo.gl/maps/qgDBRvfUfyG2) PLAN PARKING ACCORDINGLY. Pride March Captains will also be identifiable by their official teal pride shirts. PRIDE MARCH RULES: -At 11:58 there will be a moment of silence to remember those who have been lost to HIV/AIDS and violent hate crimes. All marchers must respectfully observe this moment of silence. -Marchers may not hang from the side of the float. -Marchers may not throw items into the crowd. -Marchers may not solicit donations. OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION: • We will give out our Pride is For Kids, Too t-shirts on a first-come, first-served basis and we have more marchers than shirts, so not every marcher will get one. If you marched with GFP last year, please bring your Pride is for Kids, Too shirt! Our float and t-shirt colors are purple and white! Dress to match if you can! • We line up at 11:00. The march will begin at noon. Our contingent will begin marching at approximately 1:00, so there will be a minimum of 2 hours of waiting to march. While we are waiting to step off we will do face paint, temporary tattoos, put on tutus, and generally get excited to march! • Make sure t bring sunblock, a hat, water, snacks, and anything else you will need to be comfortable walking. We suggest that you wear very comfortable shoes as most marchers will be walking the entire route! • Bathroom breaks may be EXTREMELY limited. Please plan accordingly, toilets are inside the parade route this year. • Marchers will be able to get on and off the float when the float stops, allowing tired marchers to take a break from walking and to get a chance to dance! However, the space on the float is very limited so not everyone will be able to take a turn. If you have physical limitations or concerns about walking, please let us know and we can arrange for you ride on the float. • You are welcome to bring scooters or strollers for your kids. • On the float, children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Only one caregiver should plan to accompany their child on the float. • The float is loud — there will be a DJ on board! Please bring earplugs/headphones for your child if you are concerned. • ABC7 will be doing a live broadcast of the march. • Please do not post pictures on social media without asking for permission of the people in your picture, particularly if it is of a minor. • THE MARCH WILL END AT CHRISTOPHER AND GREENWICH STREET AT APPROXIMATELY 2:30-3:00. (PLEASE SEE THE MAP BELOW) Volunteers will warn you a few blocks before to please get off the float and take you belongings before that intersection.
