Queering Institutions - Collecting, Preserving and Presenting

Moderated by College Art Association Director, Hunter O'Hanian, the panel will feature Nelson Santos from Visual AIDS, Flavia Rando and Elvis B from the Lesbian Herstory Archives, and Jim Saslow from the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art. The focus of the panel is the theory that queer lives have been historically marginalized by the mainstream, and the cultural and artistic work of queer artists and activists has been forsaken by the cannon of art history. In the absence of representation, queer institutions have led the charge to collect, preserve, and re-present queer art, history, and culture. This lecture is part of the 2016 Queer Culture Lecture and Performance Series at The Fashion Institute of Technology curated by the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art.
