TALLERES PARA CONSTRUIR ALTARES TODO EL MES DE OCTUBRE: Como cada año, tendremos un altar hecho por miembr@s de la comunidad honrando a nuestr@s ancentr@s de lucha. Este año estaremos honrando a varias personas, momentos o movimientos que han dedicado su vida, en el pasado o en el presente, a la libertad, acceso y justicia de escolar alrededor del mundo. Este año honraremos a: 1. Las vidas de miembr@s de comunidades indigenas en U.S. y Canada, que fueron forzadas a ingresar en los Internados Escolares para asimilarse a la cultura europea en los siglos 19 y 20. FECHA DE TALLERES: 10/14, 21, 28 de 6PM-8PM 2. Las vidas de estudiantes que fallecieron en el levantamiento de Soweto, Sudafrica en el 1976. FECHA DE TALLERES: 10/18, 20, 25, 27 de 10AM-12PM 3. Manuel Garcia, un joven indocumentado de la escuela International High School en Prospect Heights Brooklyn, quien falleció en el 2014, y a l@s jóvenes indocumentados quienes han fallecido buscando una vida justa y digna cruzando la frontera y haciendose indocumentad@s. Andrea Evangelina Rodriguez Perozo, la primera mujer en convertirse en doctor en La República Dominicana, y activista quien peleó para mas educación sexual para niñas y mujeres. Falleció en el 1947. FECHA DE TALLERES: 10/14, 21, 28 de 5PM-7PM 5. Las vidas de las comunidades indígenas Lumad en las Filipinas y su lucha en el presente para defendersus escuelas comunitarias ALCADEV. NOTA DE ACCESIBILIDAD - El evento sera en ingles y en español - El evento es al aire libre en una plaza que no permita carros. No hay escaleras, solo la de las veredas. (Traditional Ecuadorian beverage from Ecuador) Coloring Book of IMI CORONA: Book reading circle of our first coloring book made by the families of IMI Corona! ALTAR MAKING WORKSHOPS ALL OF OCTOBER AT IMI CORONA: As every year, we have an altars made by community members honoring our ancestors in the fight. This year we will be honoring several people, moments and movements who have devoted their life, past or present, for educational freedom, justice and access around the world. This year we will honor: 1. The lives of indigenous communities in the US and Canada, who were forced to enter the residential schools to assimilate European culture in the 19th and 20th centuries WORKSHOP DATES: 10/14, 21, 28 from 6pm-8pm 2. The lives of students who died in the uprising of Soweto, South Africa in 1976. WORKSHOPS DATES: 10/18, 20, 25, 27 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. 3. Manuel Garcia, a young undocumented immigrant from International High School at Prospect Heights Brooklyn, who passed away in 2014, and all young undocumented immigrants who have died seeking a just and dignified life crossing the border and becoming undocumented. WORKSHOP DATES: 10/19, 25, 26 from 6pm-8pm 4. Andrea Evangelina Rodriguez Perozo, the first woman to become a doctor in the Dominican Republic, and activist who fought for more sex education for girls and women. She died in 1947. WORKSHOP DATES: 10/22 from 1PM-5PM Join our celebration! Free and open to the public! ACCESSIBILITY NOTE - This event will be in english and spanish - This event is outdoors at a plaza that doesn't allows cars,. There are not steps, only that of the sidewalks.
