In an era of reality TV and political candidates gone awry, "Tonight’s Top Story" examines where we are as a country, and what happens when faux-reality takes over the world as we know it.
In three inter-connected one-acts, we first visit an average American family interviewed by a paternalistic TV crew in support of a vague male political candidate whom dad loves, the kids question, the maid abhors and to whom mom is oblivious. Next a couch potato observes her life up for grabs via her favorite winner-takes-all game show coming directly into her living room, and finally a venerable news program watches in horror as a war rages outside and the producers rebrand the news as a Jerry Springer-style reality show.
This staged-reading features performances by Christina Connolly, Ben Dunn, John Wesley Harrison, Rick Irwin, Ruperta Nelson, Brigitte Villieu-Davis and Jenn Wehrung.
Written and directed by Robb Leigh Davis.
Tickets include the performance and post-show reception. Get your ticket at gaycenter.org/topstory.
