“New York City’s King of Halloween” (Out Magazine) returns to UNDER St. Marks with his latest smash storytelling show direct from a critically acclaimed run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Announcing the New York City premiere of Dandy Darkly’s Myth Mouth!
"Storytelling that goes beyond simple tales. Rhythmic, hypnotic and entrancing." ★★★★ Broadway Baby
Dandy Darkly's Myth Mouth! explores themes of religious extremism, deadly dependency and our contemporary worship of media technology via allegorical tales concerning a junkie Persephone, cosmopup Laika, virtual reality obsession and humanity's first artist, Cha-Cha the Caveman. Dandy Darkly cites folklorist Joseph Campbell, recent celebrity deaths, his childhood love of mythology and his own struggles with addiction as influences for crafting Dandy Darkly’s Myth Mouth!
"There isn't a storyteller as engrossing, twisted, or as sequined.” ★★★★★ Grumpy Gay Critic
Dandy regales his wondrous tales of humanity and horror alongside a nonstop soundscape of prerecorded music composed by long time collaborators Adam Tendler (piano), Rachel Blumberg (percussion), and Bryce Edwards (bass and guitar). The show is peppered with eclectic sound effects to create a truly immersive storytelling experience. Ian Bjorklund returns as director. Produced in cooperation with Horsetrade Theater and Frigid NY.
"Compelling narratives set in grotesque realms of eerie, alarming detail." ★★★★ The Scotsman
Dandy Darkly is an award winning storyteller, satirist and critically acclaimed cabaret artist -- described as “fantastical fairytale horror, equal parts Tennessee Williams, Edgar Allen Poe and Bruce La Bruce” (Time Out) and “a cross between Pam Ayres, Liberace and Tales from the Crypt.” (The Scotsman) This “decidedly wicked storyteller” (New York Times) is "simply one of the most thoughtful, hilarious and harrowing queer talents at work today." (Scotsgay Magazine).
Dandy Darkly's masterful and mesmerizing style of storytelling has astounded critics and audiences at festivals and theaters across the globe. He is the glittery, ghastly jewel of the East Village with four years of critically acclaimed, satirical solo shows tackling topics such as gun violence, misogyny, gentrification and political correctness. Dandy's delirious delivery shifts seamlessly from camp bitchery into bittersweet poignancy with reflective rumination upon the subtle horrors of modern life.
"Brilliant. Crosses time and space to explore ideas of queer legends of tomorrow." ★★★★★ Scotsgay Magazine
