THIS show could be the one Sally Darling was truly born to do. Throughout her hour-long set, Darling nicely provides just enough narration to elucidate each Coward song and its source, as well as what was going on in the wider world during his composing lifetime.

She (Sally Darling) exhibited qualities I very much liked -intelligence, wit, and a playful, ever-so slightly skewed - but still quite sensible - world view.

Darling’s performance was moving in a show which will be remembered for season‘s honors this year. Darling and Ward are a superior example of structure, narrative, and musical delivery.

Sally Darling along with Musical Director, Matthew Martin Ward returns to Don't Tell Mama with her latest of her themed programs .
Sally Darling first became acquainted with Noel Coward in the 70s when she created a revue, "Noel and Cole".
In researching the show, she began to appreciate the complexity and artistry of Mr. Coward.
In subsequent delving for revues and then for her initial cabaret shows, she realized how much she was learning from him. His music, his lyrics, his letters, the praise of him by those who knew him and particularly his diaries have strongly influenced Sally's growth as an artist and as a person. Sally desires to share her admiration of the man in Totally Noel...
Sally's varied career has revolved around her voice: radio announcer, voice overs, ads, film dubbing. She has shaped her voice to the role...from cartoon cows to the Countess Rostova in War and Peace, Anna in The King and I , to Carrie in Carousel, from the character roles in Gilbert and Sullivan to characters in over 250 books narrated for The Library of Congress and for Recorded Books.
Ms. Darling has created nine completely new shows, five with the late Paul Trueblood, and four with her current musical director Matthew Martin Ward.
Mr. Trueblood started Ms. Darling on her cabaret path, Mr. Ward has taken her ever further.
Over the past few years, I’ve seen Sally Darling sing at Salon open mic any number of times. In her interpretations, her commentary, and her presence, she exhibited qualities I very much liked—intelligence, wit, and a playful, ever-so-slightly skewed—but still quite sensible—world view. I wanted to see one of her solo shows, but my schedule never cooperated—that is, until a couple of weeks ago when I caught a return engagement of her show “Perspectives” at Don’t Tell Mama, in which she was accompanied at the piano by her regular music director, the gifted Matthew Martin Ward.
