Join the New Teacher Underground and Adam Sanchez from Rethinking Schools to create social justice curriculum for the coming school year. We will discuss how writing social justice curriculum fits within a larger vision of social justice education and workshop a number of curriculum writing practices. The workshop will kick off a series of meetings and events to be held over the course of the school year with the intention of building a culture of writing and sharing radical, social justice curricula among educators in the greater New York City region. New and pre-service public school teachers are especially encouraged to attend, though all teachers are welcome.
Adam Sanchez is a social studies teacher at Harvest Collegiate High School, a Curriculum Writer and Organizer for the Zinn Education Project and serves on the editorial board of the social justice teaching magazine, Rethinking Schools. His articles on education policy and curriculum have appeared in several publications. You can read Adam's most recent column for the Zinn Education Project titled “What Happened to the Civil Rights Movement After 1965? Don’t Ask Your Textbook” here: http://www.commondreams.org/views/2016/06/15/what-happened-civil-rights-movement-after-1965-dont-ask-your-textbook.
