Synopsis
A Tour de Force
Isis, the Afro Goddess is not only a Goddess, but she is also the main source of entertainment at "The Goddess Lounge", a special place between heaven and earth, for those who need an extra boost of self- transitioning to the next dimension. But the only person who seems to need an extra boost is Isis herself, which leaves her audience questioning, how did she become an Afro Goddess? Experience her journey from her hair to her career as an artist; from her beginnings of being born in 1950s Birmingham, Alabama to falling in love; to self love; as it unfolds through text, humor, drama, poetry, song and multiple characters.
Audience feedback - Staged Reading
"Cherie is unapologetic in rendering Isis' story....her depth...range and blending of today's Hip-Hop genre with the culture of the 60's was so refreshing..." - Michael A. Jones, Actor, Musician, Playwright
"Cherie Danielle's energy is infectious....a young actress with wisdom beyond her years...I enjoyed Isis' journey immensely..." - Stephanie Calla, Owner of La Maison d'Art
"Cherie captured me from her opening monologue....her hair monologues were hilarious...one minute I was laughing my butt off and then she transported the audience into a dramatic historical odyssey of race in America via her character, Isis' journey to self - discovery....and then back to laughing....This play should be seen by everyone" - Clarence Mujahid Ali, Producer

Background and Bios
THE DIARY OF AN AFRO GODDESS was developed in the 7th POTPOURRI! World Women Works Series, from November 2015 through March 2016, through POTPOURRI's An Examination of Process: Developing A One-Woman Show and Marishka Phillips Theatrical Preparatory.
The First Look was presented March 3, 2016, as a sit down reading with music at Dixon Place on the Lower East Side. An integral part of POTPOURRI's process is incorporating dramaturgy. Stacy Waring was the Dramaturg for The Diary Of An Afro Goddess. Stacy joined the Lark Play Development Center as General Manager in 2015 . She has directed numerous projects, primarily new works, and is also an acting coach. The response from the audience was tremendous. The Q&A lasted 45 mins!
The Second Look was presented March 18, 2016cas a staged reading at La Maison d'Art in Harlem.
Cherie made adjustments to the script after feedback from the First Look audience and notes from the Dramaturg. Again, the response from audience was so encouraging. The Q&A lasted 30 mins. for the Second Look. All audience members were excited by the on-edge, fresh approach to the Civil Rights Movement in America and expressed their appreciation that Cherie was so honest in her storytelling. Based on feedback, we compiled the superb reviews from well respected audience members.

Wow Cafe Theatre WOW Cafe Theatre, a not-for-profit performance space, started as an international women’s theatre festival in October of 1980. Over the course of eleven days, 36 shows from 8 countries were performed for hungry New York lesbians. Within 18 months the group had a permanent space on East. 11th street, where they began the monster that is WOW today: a year-round festival of women’s and transgender peoples’ performance. In 1984 (or thereabouts), WOW moved to the 1400ft loft space that we inhabit today at 59-61 east 4th street. Those familiar with the downtown NYC theatre scene call the block of East 4th between 2nd Ave and the Bowery “theater row”, and WOW is proud to have among its neighbors: New York Theatre Workshop, the Rod Rodgers Dance Company, La Mama ETC, and 14 other arts groups, as collectively represented by Fourth Arts Block
