The Republican Party, with its unrelenting anti-LGBT rhetoric, bears ultimate responsibility for the anti-LGBT killings in Orlando on June 12. Its unshakable, blind allegiance to the NRA is responsible for the unrelenting epidemic of gun violence in the United States—in Columbine, Aurora, Santa Barbara, Newtown, and, most recently, Dallas.
Come let them know that's not OK with you!
Statements from Queer Nation, Gays Against Guns, and allied organizations:
“The Republican Party, with its horrendous anti-LGBT and racist rhetoric, bears ultimate responsibility for the killings in Orlando,” said Alan Klein, a member of Queer Nation. “The GOP’s blind allegiance to the NRA is responsible for the unrelenting epidemic of gun violence in America — as well as for the gun culture that contributes to police killings of people of color.”
“Donald Trump is fueling a rhetoric and culture of hate and distrust in American that, hand in hand with open access to guns, is fueling a deadly environment for people of color and queer people," said Kevin Hertzog, co-founder of Gays Against Guns. “Tonight we're shining a harsh and shaming light on this intersection of Trump's hate-speech and our over-weaponized nation.”
“Guns in the hands of individuals with deep-seated hatred and unchecked biases are dividing our nation and destroying our communities,” said Jason Walker, community organizer at VOCAL New York. “The rhetoric of Donald Trump, and the legislative actions of the Republican Party, do absolutely nothing to help solve the violence that plagues us. As a nation, we must be united to ensure that LGBT, black, and brown lives matter, and that we are all kept safe from unnecessary violence.”
“This is a decisive moment for our country,” said Leah Gunn Barrett, executive director of New Yorkers Against Gun Violence. “The American people have awakened to the horror that the NRA 'guns everywhere' culture has wrought — a raging epidemic of gun violence that has made formerly safe spaces — schools, churches, movie theaters, shopping malls and nightclubs — unsafe. We demand that the feckless Republicans in Congress stop genuflecting to the NRA and start protecting the American people by regulating who can get their hands on a gun.”
