15 and 35 are the magic numbers behind us crossing the pond to New York on May 25. A Belgian-tinted musical evening not to be forgotten in (le) poisson rouge is set to add lustre to the anniversaries of Gent Jazz Festival (15th edition) and Jazz Middelheim (35th edition) two of the leading Belgian festivals in Belgium. The programme includes 4 sets by Belgian musicians. First is Joachim Badenhorst his international Carate Urio Orchestra followed by Jozef Dumoulin and his Red Hill Orchestra in which we also meet New York residents Ellery Eskelin and Dan Weiss. Saxophone player Robin Verheyen his New York Quartet combines great musicality with an exhaustible drive and sense of adventure and includes heavyweights from the NY scene as Drew Gress, and Jeff Davis. The powerful sextet The Bureau of Atomic Tourism – or The B.O.A.T. – is an avant-garde free jazz formation led by Belgian drummer Teun Verbruggen with Tim Dahl, Nate Wooley and Jon Irabagon among others in the line-up.
