#BroadwayBackwards, the only annual Broadway event custom-made for the LGBT community, our friends and families, will return for its 11th annual edition on Monday, March 21.
Tickets are on sale now for the one‐night‐only musical performance produced by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and benefiting Broadway Cares and The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center in New York City.
Broadway Backwards is a celebratory evening for gays and lesbians to see their stories told through the great songs of musical theatre by celebrated Broadway performers. Without changing the pronouns, men sing songs originally written for women and vice versa, bringing new meaning to familiar Broadway show tunes.
The evening is set to include performances by Broadway legend and two-time Tony Award winner Chita Rivera plus Broadway favorites Nick Adams, Stephanie J. Block, Danielle Brooks, Tituss Burgess, Len Cariou, Andre De Shields, Josh Grisetti, Laura Michelle Kelly, Eddie Korbich, Beth Malone, Lesli Margherita, Karen Mason, Kenita R. Miller, Ken Page, Telly Leung, Brad Oscar, Krysta Rodriguez, Emily Skinner, Tony Sheldon, Ricky Ubeda, Treat Williams, Tony Yazbeck and Broadway trio Apollo Link. Performers subject to change.
VIP tickets include premium seats and a special post-show cocktail reception with the cast. A limited number of “Backstage & Beyond” tickets also are available, which include the opportunity to see the dress rehearsal, exclusive backstage access, a meet and greet with some of the stars of Broadway Backwards, premium seats for the show and more.
Creator Robert Bartley will again direct. Also returning are Mary‐Mitchell Campbell as music supervisor and Tim Rosser as music director. Bartley, Al Blackstone Choreography, David Bushman and Adam Roberts will choreograph. Chris DeCamillis serves as production stage manager; Paul Miller is lightning designer; Matt Kraus is sound designer and Matt Kilgore is costume designer.
Last year's edition raised a record $466,717 for the two organizations. It featured a spirited 66-person cast of Broadway and screen stars backed by a live 13-piece orchestra.
What began as a small, grassroots concert performed at The Center in 2006, quickly grew into an highly anticipated event presented in Broadway’s best theatres. In its 10 editions, Broadway Backwards has raised more than $2.4 million for Broadway Cares and The Center.
