Storytelling 2.0

Teabags are to hot water what visions of the future are to our imagination; steeping it in caffeine and taste - coloring it with vibrancy. From 1984 to Brazil to Back to the Future, we love to get a glimpse into what the future holds, whether it is dystopian or utopian - whether we will talk telepathically, or travel on hoverboards. The future is teeming with possibility and it gives us hope that something that doesn't exist now will exist in the future. Storytelling 2.0 is the future of the solo show. The Tank has brought together some of the best new faces in the NYC Storytelling scene who are pushing the boundaries of what can be done with a solo storytelling show. From the use of audio reenactments, to videos of the storyteller's parents, to skype calls across country - this will be a glimpse into where we can go. If you are interested in experiments that push us to envision a different world and you like solo storytelling, these are the shows for you. Four shows for $10 each October 8th - 10th PHONE BONE Thursday October 8th @ 7pm It's the late 90's and a 20 year old virgin gets a second job as a phone sex operator when she moves to San Diego to work at a Backpacker's Hostel. The need for the second job is financial but fueled by much darker and more disturbing motivations. Almost three months of working the lines accumulating interactions that range from the awkwardly absurd, titillating and heartwarming to horrific and disgusting she ends up learning more about herself, her coworkers and men that she expects. Mark Pagán premieres the only coming-of-age story about stubble where there shouldn’t be stubble, gap-toothed francophone beauticians, Teddy Pendegrass, the world’s worst treasure trail, Eastern European lazers, action star asses, fake cancer scares, Y2K prep kits, clandestine salon visits, and lots and lots and lots and lots of wax. Maybe even a four. It’s your job as an adult to love the four, and forget the six” – Nate’s therapist. Nate Charles Troisi premieres his one man show in NYC before heading off to New Orleans. David Troisi Isn’t Gay is a show about a rivalry as old as time itself (28 years), the rivalry between Father and Son. From the depths of the human soul, to the depths of hell itself (Hawaii), Nate Charles Troisi recounts pranks, misunderstandings and coping mechanisms that make up his family. Both will be telling an interwoven story, each from his own city, at the same time, about their experience on their pilgrimage to a holy land that would forever change the trajectory of their lives.
