Concert in the amphitheater, hosted by Angel Nafis with performances by Nappy Nina and the Sons, Tunde Olaniran, Noname Gypsy, and BILAL. Jams by DJ NativeSUN.

MoCADA’s popular Self-Care Sundays is teaming up with Lauren Ash from Black Girl In Om for an afternoon of vinyasa flow yoga. Featuring "sounds of tomorrow" by Soulection’s DJ Eden Hagos and mats provided by Mimi of Selamta Yoga. The pop-up will also include meaningful dialogue and giveaways. Bring used/new mats to donate to Yoga Foster, a nonprofit which provides yoga programming to elementary school students. For self-identified women of color only. Space will be limited. In his new performance DISCOTROPIC (2015), niv Acosta explores the relationship between science fiction, disco, astrophysics, and the black American experience. Acosta’s DISCOTROPIC reconsiders past futures, while claiming a fantastical site of possibility through a cast whose imaginative engagement with science fiction rewrites its dominant narratives. Assembled by Acosta, performers include Monstah Black, Justin Allen, André D. Singleton (aka Brohogany Opulence), and Acosta himself.

Black Radical Imagination is a touring program of visual shorts focusing on the aesthetics of afro-futurism, afro-surrealism, and the magnificent through the context of cinema. Curated by Erin Christovale and Amir George, the New York premiere of the 2015 program includes works by Terence Nance, Cauleen Smith, Lauren Kelley and more. Spotlighting new stories within the diaspora, each artist contributes their own vision of a post-modern society through the state of current black culture.

Every Friday night in August brings the MoCADA-hosted KIDFlix Film Festival, at Fulton Park, in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. Beginning each week at 7pm, this annual event draws hundreds of children and families from throughout the borough to experience kid friendly features, documentaries, shorts and television programming by filmmakers of the African Diaspora.
