This summer, a pirate with a checkered past embarks on her most dangerous adventure yet...winning the heart of the most terrifying woman in town--a sorceress with a bad attitude.
My play, "Encanta," is premiering as part of Manhattan Repertory Theatre's Premiere Play Development Program.
"Encanta" is a fantasy romance about the magic of love and romance set to a Latin jazz soundtrack.
Best buds Juan and Rico are relaxing at the beach when they fish out Penzima, a lady pirate who lost it all in a shipwreck. Though they warn her about the sorceress Katrina, Penzima fearlessly approaches her and is instantly smitten. Sparks fly when they meet, and it's not just the fact that Katrina and shoot lightning from her fingertips.
It would be a match made in heaven for these two would-be lovebirds, but there is one problem: Penzima and Katrina are the least likely candidates for a fairy tale ending. Penzima has a checkered past that casts doubt on her intentions. Katrina has a volcanic temper and a chip on her shoulder the size of the Grand Canyon. Katrina's meddling cousin and mob of witch-haters stirring up trouble aren't helping, either.
"Encanta" will show on Wednesday, August 26 at 6:30pm and Friday, August 28 at 6:30pm. Depending on seating, additional days may be added.
Tickets are $20.
