KEITH JOSEF ADKINS-- An Emerging Talent
Keith Josef Adkins is a playwright and screenwriter.
As a screenwriter, Keith wrote, directed and produced the pilot episode of the sci-fi web-series, THE ABANDON. He also recently penned THE DISAPPEARING, a sci- fi/drama feature script, for Simon Says Entertainment (Blue Caprice, Mother of George, Gun Hill Road). He also penned the slasher script, THE TURNPIKE, and is developing another sci-fi feature script called THE APPROACH about an alien invasion in the Lower East Side during Hurricane Sandy. Keith worked three seasons for the hit CW comedy GIRLFRIENDS.
His plays include The People Before The Park, about the 19th century black community Seneca Village that was destroyed to create Central Park. It will premiere at Premiere Stages in Summer 2015. His play Pitbulls received its world premiere Off-Broadway at Rattlestick Theater, NYC, in Fall 2014. His play Safe House received its world premiere Fall 2014 at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park with a subsequent production at Repertory Theatre of St. Louis (Winter 2015). His play The Last Saint on Sugar Hill received its world premiere at MPAACT Theater in Chicago, garnering a Best New York nomination at the 2012 Jeff Awards. The Last Saint received its New York City premiere in 2013 at Dr. Barbara Ann Teer’s National Black Theater in NYC and earned six 2014 Audelco nominations. Other plays include The Dangerous, Sugar and Needles, The Final Daze, among others.
Keith is also the artistic director of The New Black Fest, an organization dedicated to new and provocative playwriting, films and discussion from the African Diaspora. The New Black Fest recently commissioned and curated Facing Our Truth: Ten- Minute Plays on Trayvon, Race and Privilege as well as HANDS UP: 6 Playwrights, 6 Testaments. Both collections are currently being produced throughout the country. Samuel French just published Facing Our Truth in Spring 2015.
