A SALUTE TO LGBT PRIDE, THIS OUT PROFESSIONALS’ WALKING TOUR & MIXER IS DESIGNED FOR US BY WALK ABOUT NEW YORK.
On Saturday afternoon, June 13, Out Professionals invites you to explore Greenwich Village, New York’s most storied neighborhood. Many of its stories were written by the lesbians and gay men who have lived, loved, worked and partied here since the early 20th century, when the Village became home to artists, writers, musicians and playwrights looking for an unconventional environment and creative freedom.
Following your tour, you’re welcome to unwind among new friends at Julius’s, one of Manhattan’s oldest bars and the site of the 1966 Sip-In, at which activists challenged the NYS Liquor Authority’s regulation that prohibited bars and restaurants from serving homosexuals. Julius’s was a favorite hangout of Tennessee Williams and Truman Capote.
The Stonewall Riots that erupted in June 1969 announced to the world that Greenwich Village was the epicenter of gay life; now it was where gay liberation was born.
This tour’s cast of well-known and lesser-known characters is sure to amuse, surprise and inform you. It includes:
• A closeted multimillionaire
• A First Lady’s circle of friends
• Artists, poets, photographers and musicians
• Political activists and city officials
