Garry Kasparov came to international fame as the youngest world chess champion in history in 1985 at the age of 22. An outspoken critic of the Soviet system, Kasparov joined the vanguard of the Russian pro-democracy movement. In 2005 he formed the United Civil Front, of which he is still the chairman, and co-led The Other Russia coalition that focused on uniting the Russian opposition to Putin under the banner of free and fair elections. In 2012, Kasparov was named chairman of the New York-based Human Rights Foundation. He also founded The Kasparov Chess Foundation which promotes the teaching of chess in education systems around the world.
Garry Kasparov will share his thoughts on the current status of civil rights and LGBTQ rights in Russia and will take questions from the community. Kasparov is a Russian pro-democracy leader, global human-rights activist, business speaker and author, and former world chess champion. In 2005 he formed the United Civil Front, of which he is still the chairman, and co-led The Other Russia coalition that focused on uniting the Russian opposition to Putin under the banner of free and fair elections.
