Originally published in 1924. The story follows the Billy Budd as he is pressed into service as part of the British Navy. Billy is full of youthful innocence, openness and natural charisma. He is adored by all on board with some homosexual desire and jealousy by various crew members. The story reaches a crisis when a jealous crewmate falsely accuses Billy of a conspiracy to mutiny. The novel is often interpreted as a classic battle between good and evil, but there's much ambiguity for discussion.

And there's lots of commentary online, too. It seems everybody has a theory about "Billy Budd."
