A MEMBER EXCLUSIVE, OUT PROFESSIONALS’ PRIVATE, AFTER-WORK TOUR UNVEILS THE HIGH LINE AT ITS COMPLETION!
Out Professionals welcomes Members to an official, private tour of the newly completed High Line — the internationally celebrated park traversing 22 city blocks, 30 feet in the air, with expansive views of New York City and the Hudson River. Afterwards, enjoy the option of a drop-in at The Tippler, a Meatpacking District favorite.
Opening September 20, the High Line’s northernmost, $75-million Rail Yards section will anchor the burgeoning Hudson Yards development. Our guide this evening is OP Member Andre Becker, an official docent of Friends of the High Line. As you will learn, the freight line that underlies the park was built in the 1920s and abandoned in the 1980s.
Highlights of Andre’s tour include:
. How 11th Avenue earned the name “Death Avenue.”
. The legend of the West Side Cowboy and his historic role.
. The unique relationship between the gay community and the now formidably chic Meatpacking District.
. The long fight by Joshua David and John Hammond, both gay, to transform the derelict High Line into a visionary park.
