We're queer, and we're not immune to the effects of human-caused climate change! In fact LGBTQ-identified people, like many minority or marginalized communities around the world, will be especially vulnerable to the impacts of global warming and extreme weather events. Drawing inspiration from the Chautauqua movement of the early 20th, the Queer Climate Chautauqua is designed to mobilize and inspire LGBTQ participation in the People's Climate March, an unprecedented climate mobilization taking place in New York on Sunday, September 21. The Queer Climate Chautauqua begins the week of September 15 with a series of open studios and community workshops in puppet building, prop making and other activities leading to the creation of a temporary installation in the Experimental Theater. Guided by Bizzy Barefoot and Quito Ziegler -- the creative forces behind last year's Forest of the Future - this participatory, public installation becomes the backdrop for live performances, teach-ins, video screenings and other programming on Saturday, September 20, the eve of the People's Climate March. People are encouraged to bring sleeping bags and sleep over night. Sunday morning enjoy a pancake breakfast before we head to the march en masse! Marchers are encouraged to return to Abrons on Sunday after the march for a celebration and decompression featuring DJs and performances.12noonof
