ALL OUT ARTS’ 12th annual Fresh Fruit Festival announces an evening of three one-act plays under the collective title LEGENDS THROUGH A GLASS QUEERLY. The original works by Brandon Monokian, Zavé Martohardjono and Tom Rowan are three mythology-inspired plays that transform ancient lore into modern-day stories of love.
The Fresh Fruit Festival is presented by All Out Arts to celebrate the LGBTQ community’s unique perspective, creativity & diversity, and to build links between the LGBTQ artistic communities, be they local or international. LEGENDS THROUGH A GLASS QUEERLY will be presented for two performances only at The Wild Project, one of downtown theatre's most up-to-date and beautiful venues, at 195 East 3rd Street in the East Village. Performances of the triple bill are Friday, July 18, at 9:00 PM and Sunday, July 20, at 12 Noon.
THE PLAYS:
echo, narcissus, narcissus, echo, a new play by Brandon Monokian, takes a myth from Ovid’s Metamorphoses and adapts it to the modern day through a poetic text that explores love, obsession, youth and addiction. This is a world premiere; the script had a previous staged reading produced by Your Name Here: A Queer Theatre Company that starred Christian Coulson (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) as Narcissus.
The play will be directed by Rachel Karp and stars David Andrew Laws and Andy Reinhardt.

Brother Lovers is an experimental play written and directed by Brooklyn-based performance and video artist Zavé Martohardjono. In the play, an electric glance between two ancient warriors in a modern-day disco club resurrects a 5,000-year-old family tragedy and sparks a tense romance. Mixing the Mahabharata tale of Arjuna and Karna with personal narrative and poetry, BROTHER LOVERS reinvents an epic about war and family with a queer twist.
The interdisciplinary play features a diverse cast of queer dancers and theater artists, including Mieke D, G.J. Dowding, Zachary Frater, Zavé Martohardjono, Ankit Rastogi, and Nyx Zierhut. It also includes video by Martohardjono in collaboration with filmmakers Kjerstin Rossi and Niknaz Tavakolian.

The Blue Djinn, a tender and funny new play by Tom Rowan, is the story of Alex, a would-be opera composer who arrives home after a night out dancing. With him is Blue, a sexy go-go boy from the club. What appears to be a casual--if somewhat awkward--one-night stand soon takes a very unexpected turn, when Blue tells Alex that dancing is just something he does for the extra cash: his real vocation is altogether more special and surprising. Before the end of the night, Alex will have to decide what it is he really wants out of life.
The play has original music by renowned art song, chamber music and opera composer Martin Hennessy. It is directed by Joshua Warr and stars Sean Hankinson*(TV’s Days of Our Lives and Prom Queen) and Carrington Vilmont* (Current Broadway cast of The Phantom of the Opera).
*Member of Actors Equity Association. AEA approved showcase.
