Yoruba Richen is a documentary filmmaker whose work focuses on illuminating issues of race, space, and power. She grew up in Harlem, New York City and these experiences continue to shape questions of race and access explored in her work. Richen studied political science and theatre at Brown University and went on to receive a master’s degree in City Planning at UC Berkeley. Combining her passion for social justice and telling stories, she pursued a career in documentary filmmaking, working on documentaries for HBO, BET, and A&E as well as working in the investigative unit at ABC News. She is the recipient of many awards, including a Fulbright Award and the CLAGS Giard Fellowship.
