WATER FROM THE MOON features a theatrical score with a nod to rock and tells the story of the ultimate reconciliation of an Irish daughter and her hard-headed father. Sort of heartbreaking, but always with emphasis on the absurd humor created by their acrimony. The cast includes Loar (Sunset Boulevard), Rich Hebert (Billy Elliot), Alicia Irving (Les Miserables), and Emily Mikesell (Lone Star Love). The director is Lisa Milinazzo (Slain In the Spirit). Musicians will include John DiPinto on piano and Shannon Ford on drums. Cabaret performer Raissa Katona Bennett (Phantom of the Opera) will be the narrator.
In fall 2011, MMTL presented the Loar/Atwood musical Spoolie Girl, which was subsequently nominated for 11 "Best of the Fest" awards at the 2012 Midtown International Theatre Festival, including winning the award for "Outstanding Music and Lyrics" and a nomination for "Best Production of a Musical."
Manhattan Musical Theatre Lab, which was founded by the late Bick Goss in 1999, develops new works for the musical theater through a multistep reading program. Works vary in style and are selected from professional recommendations as well as formal and informal associations with organizations like the National Alliance of Musical Theaters and The BMI-Lehman Engel Musical Theater Workshop.
