Join us for a two-day hackathon over National Coming Out Day Weekend (Saturday, 10.12.13 & Sunday, 10.13.13) and help guide ACT UP/NY into the digital age by loaning us your ample design, research, and copy writing/editing skills.
We'll feed your body (with actual food [breakfast and lunch with be provided on both days]), your mind (with our knowledge of the current state of the local and global HIV/AIDS crisis), and your soul (by giving you an opportunity to assist in the fight to end AIDS). Everybody wins!
We have a few small projects that members of ACT UP/DAWG (the Digital Activism Working Group) & ACT UP/PHAG (the Prevention of HIV Action Group) will supervise, but will largely put in your hands to realize, over the course of the two-day weekend hack.
Activists, designers, students, writers, engineers, librarians, doctors, students, lawyers, researchers, musicians, coders, whatever you self-identify as ... trust us ... you belong.
You don't need to know how to code or design and you don't need to know anything about current HIV/AIDS medical breakthroughs or policy. All you need is a good attitude and the time to commit to the group, so please plan to be at the hackathon the entire time. Otherwise, all are welcome!

FAQs
Q: What is a hackathon? I'm not signing up for anything illegal am I?
A: Not at all. A hackathon is a coming together of people with varied skill sets to work on a project or projects that an individual or smaller group couldn't do on their own in a short amount of time. Still not sure? Check out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hackathon
Q: Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?
A: No and definitely not; all are welcome!
Q: What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
A: Street parking is a gamble, but available; there are bike racks in front of the center and citibike has stations on both W13th & 7th and W13th & Greenwich; and, of course, you can take the L or 1/2/3 trains to W14th and walk from there to The Center.
Q: What can/can't I bring to the event?
A: Please Bring:
Your skills, your awesome personality, your laptop (if you have one and it would add to what you're able to bring to the group), and a willingness and eagerness to work with people from across the HIV/AIDS Activism spectrum.

A: It would be helpful, but is not necessary.
Q: The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?
A: It would be helpful (especially because we'll be making everyone nametags), but, again, is not necessary.
