UPDATE: Roxy will be closing its doors for good on March 10, 2007 Prepare to be overwhelmed by this immense NYC nightclub packed with shirtless boys enjoying dance music all night long. Hot go-gos, the hugest dance floor you may ever see, and plenty of places to steal away for a conversation. This is the place that many gay icons "surprise" the audience: Madonna appeared in a October 2005 surprise performance to launch her latest single and album.

Roxy was the first gay bar/club/anything I ever went to. I remember being overwhelmed by the sheer number of shirtless and hot men in that place. It was as if I had walked into another universe. Over the years I've gone back again and again and have always had fun (though at times the music got very dark and druggy). I thought the Roxy would "always be there", but I guess nothing is forever!

Bars and clubs come and go, but the Roxy keeps going and going... Without the overbearing security found at other recent clubs, the shirtless club crowd can still enjoy uninhibitted dancefloor activity. While the Roxy still packs a good crowd into its giant former-roller-rink dance floor, the club has lost some of its energy from its peak in the late nineties. The main dance floor, the small upstairs eightees room, and lots of side nooks and crannies provide plenty of room to get lost when you want to!
