Just a lovely place for the more mature crowd, not someone looking for pounding music and strippers. Relaxing and quite enjoyable, it is a nice change of pace from the crazy world outside.

I found myself here one night when visiting NY. I had a great night, drinking, chatting & listening to the piano. The atmosphere is great, the staff were freindly and I it has been one night I shall always remember from my visit to NY. So what if someone hits on you, I was. It was subtle and flattering. Give it a go!

Upscale bar with a friendly older crowd. I often end the night here listening to the piano after Oscar Wildes.

The reviews of Townhouse run the gamut, from total negative to nice, indeed. As a Gay man well into his fifties, my POV is far from the earlier review which stamped Townhouse as a place for rather 'vile' aging trolls. I've spent several delightful evenings here, both with a partner and solo. When alone, I wasn't there to 'troll' for the younger guys, merely to have a couple of drinks, listen to the piano, and relax. Which I did. Haven't noticed many older guys hitting on and making life miserable for the younger guys. It may happen, but I haven't seen it. I'd suggest giving Townhouse a chance, seeing for yourself..

My younger bf and I stopped by on a Sat. night, and chatted with another younger/older couple.
The piano bar is nice and the music is not overpowering, actually enabling people to carry on a conversation. We will go there again when we are in the city in April.

If you're the kind of person who thinks anyone over forty or so is automatically a "troll" than this place is not for you. It has a nice older crowd of mostly professional men who are looking for same. Yes, there are hustlers now and then and they stand out like sore thumbs, and aren't even that hot. The front room is convivial and cruisy, the back room has a piano and singing, and the downstairs lounge is a bit more intimate. Mixed ages, actually, although it does tend to be an older crowd. Maybe not as nice as it used to be, but still a worthwhile bar.

This place was at one time (so I hear) a place were a gay professional can go and have a good time. Me and my friends were dressed in our suits (from the office) and since we are new to NY (just moved to NY from College) we thought we would stop in, we had old trolls offering us cash for company! Everyone was dressed as though they just finished working the farm. No attractive young guys AT ALL! Rude customers at the piano, some ditsy broad with black hair was trying to chat with us and her "boyfriend" (or older brother)was trying to get into our pants. Stay away form this place, there is nothing classy about it The Gay Cities review is SO WRONG!
We though that we had gone on a bad nite and went again the following week, and there was no change.. Run from this place and do not look back.
So, what do you say?
