***** Unfriendly bouncer

Had the same experience as others here. Very unfriendly bouncer refused to let me in because I didn't have a "drivers license or passport"! even though I'm clearly 40 years old. They must lose a lot of customers this way.

ok it's dark, but you can see well enough to count your change. they are not overly freindly, but not rude either - it's new york. the bartop, floor and bathrooms are clean enough. it smells a lot better than a fuck'n hospital. the happy hour price for a draft beer was $5., not exactly a happy hour deal. it's nothing to write home about, but it's not as bad as the other reviewers say. i would stop in again for a drink.

Stopped in mid-afternoon, bright hot sunny day. When the curtains swung shut behind me, total darkness. Voices, low, vaguely audible. The smell of yesterday's beer, on the floor, wafted up. Very unpleasant, stumbling around feeling for a bar stool. Left before ordering a beer. But I suppose the utter anonymity is the purpose.

THE FIRST ATTEPMT WE DECIDED NOT TO GO IN BECAUSE THE BOUNCER WAS REALLY RUDE TO MY HUSBAND. THEN WE WENT IN AGAIN ON A SUNDAY AFTERNOON. THE PLACE SMELLS BAD AND IS VERY DARK. BARTENDERS NOT FRIENDLY AND QUITE FRANKLY I WOULDNT SEND MY DOG THERE. AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS GUYS. THERE ARE MUCH BETTER BARS IN NEW YORK!!

Last visited this place on a Friday, where it was packed with attractive men of all ages. The atmosphere is macho, even if all of the patrons aren't -- but everyone seems to be welcome. There were two go go boys, one of whom clambered all over the bar counter but left you alone if you weren't interested. The bar is so darkly lit that you'll have trouble counting your change. Friendly crowd. The music is loud but not so ear-splitting that you can't hold a conversation. A deficit -- at least for me -- was that two of the three bartenders were straight-identified. Needless to say the friendliest bartender was the openly gay bear. Slightly less unpleasant is the fact that the doorman may ask to see your ID no matter how old you are -- this has something to do with some Chelsea bars admitting the underage [why they ask to see IDs of men clearly in their forties is beyond me.] If this place is too dark and dank for you, walk downtown a couple of blocks and go to Gym, which is also jam-packed on weekends.
