Suite

Suite has undergone a major transformation. I remember this place with the pool table, small booths, rickety chairs at the bar. The new Suite is remarkable. Was there Monday night, happy hour the entire evening. So clean, so friendly, everything tip-top. Will be returning, and be adding to this review. Highly recommended. A true Gay oasis up in the Columbia neighborhood.

This place is very different and has a great vibe to it. Welcomes every one and there is always something going on there. Love it

Suite is at the corner of 109th and Amsterdam on the Upper West Side, just blocks from Columbia University and far from what is typically considered the more gay areas of town (The Village, Chelsea, Hell's Kitchen, etc). It has the feel of a community/local bar mixed with a club vibe. There are couches as you walk in, a good sized bar for the size of the building, and plasma TVs on almost every wall, along with various lighting effects. It is too small to be considered a disco and has too many fancy things to be a bar, thus it is a gay bar. :-) Pretty slow during the day and early evening usually, but gets a little more happening at night. There is a pretty good mix of people. Everything from Columbia professors, staff, and students to locals. The age range is pretty broad too. The bartenders, as mentioned before, tend to be cute. The drinks are ok, but not great in my opinion. I'd recommend it for a relaxing drink or just going out with friends, but probably not if you're really looking to club, etc.

Went to Suite last night, because I saw the advertisement of a gorgeous black performer outside (think her name was S'hara). It was an amazing show. It was like Broadway on the UWS. I had never seen anything like that before in my life. He/she was amazing. Everyone there was also friendly. Will definitely be back.

Suite is an amazing little hidden treasure in the UWS. I cannot believe there are not more gay oriented places to hang out in this neighborhood. At Suite, you get a great mix of Columbia boys as well as older, sophisticated men, thugs...whatever your tastes. Also, the bartenders are great eye candy and very friendly. Definitely worth checking out.
